Care & Feeding of Your New Tattoo

Taking Care of Your New Tattoo

  • Leave bandage on for 4 - 6 hours. After removal of bandage, wash area with warm water and mild antibacterial soap.

  • Wash tattoo 2 times a day with mild antibacterial soap.

  • On the first night, you may want to wrap your tattoo in saran wrap to prevent sticking to your bedding. Do not use any cloth bandages or pads, as the fibers of this material can adhere to your fresh tattoo and hinder the healing process. (You can do this up to five nights as needed.)

  • The first 7 days: Rub a small amount of ointment on your tattoo. You may use Bacitracin, A&D, Neosporin, or Triple Antibiotic Ointment. Whatever you know you’re not allergic to. There are some great companies that have created excellent products, some I have listed below. Always use clean hands and do not place your fingers back into the ointment after touching your tattoo. Make sure to rub the ointment in and you want to use the thinnest amount possible. Pat off any excess ointment with a clean cloth or paper towel. Do Not keep tattoo moist as that can create problems with the healing.

  • I repeat; A thin layer of triple antibiotic ointment, or ointment of your choice. DO NOT CAKE ON, apply a small amount and rub it in. 3 - 5 TIMES A DAY or as NECESSARY. This is a generalized number not to be taken literally but seems to work good for most.

  • Some may only require three times a day or less. It depends upon the unique properties of your own skin, age of skin cells, tattoo size, and location all take apart in factoring the time frame of the healing. It's good idea to allow your tattoo to dry between ointment applications to minimize the growth of harmful bacteria & minimize acne in the surrounding area.

  • After day 4 - 5 your tattoo will begin to peel. This is normal… Do not pick at the skin.

  • After the seventh day you may use a quality hand lotion, 3 to 4 times a day for the following weeks.

  • Use Lotion for a minimum of two weeks.

  • Wear clean soft clothing over your tattoo for the first 2 weeks, nothing abrasive or irritating. For a foot tattoo: Go barefoot as much as possible. If you must wear shoes, first wrap your clean tattoo in saran wrap, then cover with a clean cotton sock before putting on your shoe. Avoid sandals or flip flops for this period to prevent chafing and damage to the tattoo.

How To apply Anesten Topical Anesthetic Cream

  • Wash the area receiving laser treatment with soap and water. Dry area completely.
  • Apply a thick amount of numbing cream to the area and rub in thoroughly.
  • Place an additional, thin layer of cream over the area.
  • Cover the cream with plastic wrap (saran wrap). The heat under the plastic wrap helps activate the cream. and keeps the cream form drying off.
  • Leave the plastic wrap on until it is removed by the professional before the procedure.
  • Tips & Warnings: Leave the cream on the skin longer for better result. Don't remove the saran wrap until you feel the numbing effect.

How much Anesten do you need?

One (1) Tube of Anesten can cover a skin area the size of two palms. If the skin area to be worked on is larger than two palms, then you need two or more tubes of Anesten.

Various other ointment options for healing your tattoo. I recommend trying a few out to see what works best for you.
